Carlos Slim's New Highway Project in Oaxaca

The businessman Carlos Slim has maintained a close relationship with the governments of the 4T, actively participating in various infrastructures. On this occasion, his partnership with the current head of government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, is highlighted for the inauguration of a highway in Oaxaca this weekend.

According to the column written by Jeanette Leyva Reus, the Mitla-Tehuantepec highway began construction in 2007, but it was during the previous administration that concrete actions were taken for its completion. This project is inaugurated with the participation of Sheinbaum, benefiting the connection of the Isthmus Interoceanic Corridor area with the center and north of the country.

The highway is concessioned to Impulsora de Desarrollo de América Latina (IDEAL), part of Carlos Slim's Grupo Carso. With a length of 169.2 kilometers, it will connect the Port of Salina Cruz with the City of Oaxaca, significantly reducing travel time and transportation costs in the region.

In addition to facilitating connections in the southeast region, the Mitla-Tehuantepec highway is part of a freight corridor that extends from the City of Tapachula to Puebla and Mexico City, promoting the activation of businesses and the local economy. The construction of the highway includes 65 bridges, 14 viaducts, nine tunnels, and 20 interchanges, marking a milestone in the region's infrastructure.

The last known meeting between Carlos Slim and Claudia Sheinbaum took place in October of last year at the National Palace. On that occasion, new projects were discussed in which the businessman and his team will participate, focused on significant private investments for the near future. Although specific details about the projects they will collaborate on were not revealed, the partnership between Slim and Sheinbaum is expected to continue strengthening in upcoming development initiatives.
